In a darkly humorous twist, the event theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” brought out the best in the dead. Because this came with ensembles eerily reminiscent of the legend himself.

It was a night of the living dead, as the restless spirit of Lagerfeld seemed to be in control of the red, white, and blue carpet. The late designer’s spectral presence could be felt in the Chanel-inspired outfits, which were worn by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Lizzo, and Olivia Rodrigo. But let’s not forget the Fendi worshipers, led by Suki Waterhouse and Kate Moss. Because both were clearly channeling their inner Lagerfeld zombies.

The ’90s Revival: Celebrities Channeling a Nostalgic Era

But the most macabre nod to the past was Nicole Kidman, wearing the pink Chanel gown she wore in her 2004 No. 5 ad. Because Lagerfeld’s legacy lives on, even if his body is gone.

In a ghastly twist, some celebrities seemed determined to resurrect Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette. So, Jared Leto showed up in a full cat mascot costume. However, Doja Cat wore a crystal-covered dress that extended into a headpiece with cat ears.

As attendees reveled in the darkness of the gala, Lagerfeld’s controversial statements on body size seemed to fade into the shadows. Instead, the night was filled with tributes. And celebs raised their glasses to the ultimate undead designer.

The Met Gala exhibition, sponsored by the souls of Chanel and Fendi. Because of that, it featured over 150 eerie looks from Lagerfeld’s time at both fashion houses. Grouped around themes like romance and military, the exhibit perfectly captured the essence of the designer who refused to rest in peace. So, in the end, the night served as a chilling reminder that in the world of fashion, not even death can stop a legend like Karl Lagerfeld.
