according to the latest episode of “As Theranos Turns,” our lead, Ms. Holmes, is supposed to report to prison by 2pm on May 30. Clearly, the courts are sticklers for punctuality, even when it comes to starting an 11-year sentence. If only Theranos’s blood-testing technology had been as precise as the judge’s wristwatch!
It’s all coming after an appeals court ruled Holmes can’t keep her freedom while she appeals. There’s almost a sense that they don’t totally trust her… No, surely not!
The Multi-Million Dollar Misstep: The Holmes and Balwani Case
Speaking of things that are wildly expensive and don’t deliver as promised (no, not your last online shopping spree). Holmes and her former Theranos sidekick, Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, have been ordered to cough up a cool $452 million in restitution. But wait, there’s more! Our disgraced duo managed to swindle more than $700 million from investors through what the SEC charmingly calls an “elaborate, years-long fraud.” Who knew that ‘elaborate, years-long fraud’ was just Silicon Valley speak for ‘our business model’?
Now, it’s not all doom and gloom. While behind bars, Holmes will have plenty of time to work on her next groundbreaking invention. Maybe a device that accurately predicts your parole date? Or perhaps a gadget that turns prison gruel into Michelin-starred cuisine? The possibilities are endless!
Balwani, who began his sentence a month earlier, is probably already doodling blueprints for an escape tunnel on his cell wall.
