Ah, the golden age of political theater – where courtroom dramas starring former presidents are the new Netflix binges. The hypothetical indictment of Donald Trump over alleged hush money payments has us all wondering, “Will he or won’t he…get a mugshot?”
If there were an Oscars for mugshots, we’d all be grabbing our popcorn.
But wait! Alina Habba, an attorney for Trump, says that releasing the former president’s mugshot is unnecessary. After all, Trump is arguably the most recognizable face on the planet. Also, it’s not like the aliens are going to be using it to identify him in an interstellar lineup.
She has a point. Mugshots are usually for those cases when you go, “Oh, that guy!” But let’s be honest, who doesn’t know Trump? The man could put on a Batman suit and people would still be like, “Hey, is that Trump trying to be Batman?!”

Habba says she’s all for transparency (perhaps not as much as Trump’s Twitter account was) but questions the necessity of the mugshot. She argues that it won’t help with his potential 2024 campaign. And we can see why. What’s the campaign slogan going to be? “Make America Mugshot Again?”
On the other hand, wouldn’t this mugshot be the pièce de résistance in the grand gallery of Trump’s life? Maybe he could auction it for charity – or perhaps to fund the border wall.
What’s ironic is that in New York State, where Trump is expected to surrender, mugshots aren’t public records. But Trump’s life has been anything but private. He’s been a reality TV star, real estate mogul, and POTUS. It’s like telling a Kardashian to avoid the paparazzi.

Now, back to the “transparency” part. Cameras in the courtroom? Habba’s not opposed. Because It would be the courtroom drama of the century. So, judge Judy would have to step aside. A Trump trial could very well become the highest-rated reality show of all time. It might even have its own spin-offs: Keeping up with the Litigations.
In the end, whether Trump gets a mugshot or not, it’s undeniable that his place in history is already cemented, with or without a fresh portrait. And really, if we’re honest with ourselves, isn’t a Trump mugshot just the sort of macabre collectible that 2023 needs?
